Stopping those marks on your carpets edges is easy when you know how. It will take some work but when done it will solve this problem once and for all. Lift carpet Run gapfill along bottom of skirting if these marks are where the fitter laying the carpet has punctured the underlay use flexible tape and seal these up. Refit carpet. One last thing if you do clean the black marks. Be careful as the carpet gripper has little Sharpe needles that hold the carpet in place and when you clean these can catch your fingers if they are near the top of the carpet. Normal these are not a problem as they at the edges of the carpet.
