Cellular Phones Did you know that the cell phones have a longer history then the radio? Yes, the radios were first introduced in 1921 but the technology for the cell phones is traced back to 1920. Police used some of the cell phone features on their radios back in the 1940s. The mobile car phone was developed as the idea of the cellular phone in 1947. Bell Laboratories developed the idea or concept of the cellular phone. Cells for mobile phone stations were developed to. Russell Ohl developed a device that electrical energy was converted from light energy. A buzzing hornet sound came when trying to eavesdrop on a conversation and therefore teh name Green Hornet was given to the prototype.Taxicabs and police cars has a long history or two-way radios form Motorola. The year of 1973 was the invention of the actual cell phone. Martin Cooper and assisting inventers are given the credit. "radio telephone system" is what is was known as. While people were walking on a New York City street in 1973, Cooper made the first portable call on a cell phone. A prototype called Motorola DynaTac was used. Joel Engel was the person he made the call to. From this, the technology and communications market shifted from the place and to the person. In 1978, Bell Labs introduced the first commercial cellular network in Chicago using AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone System). This was an analog mobile phone system. It became the primary analog mobile phone system in North America and is still widely available today, although it's used much less since the introduction of various digital standards. Cell phones were first made available to the public in 1984 although they were very large, expensive instruments. The Federal Communications Commission worked together with AT&T and Bell Towers to establish broadcast towers. The towers were small with little power and covered a "cell" that was actually only a few miles in radius but could cover a larger area. Towers allowed calls to transfer from tower to tower.
