Water Fuel and Biodiesel: Alternative to Gas

By: Lina Mavaega

Face it; we're all worried about rising gas prices, but it's not just about driving to and from work without breaking the bank. Yes, gas prices have risen past three dollars gallon, but it's not just each driver who is affected.

One possible "positive" benefit of rising gas prices, though, is that we have had to think of alternative fuels in ways we've never had to before.

There is perhaps a "positive" benefit to rising gas prices, though. That is that we have had to think about alternative fuels where we have not had to before. In fact, we've mindlessly relied on fossil fuels over the past generations, but have only given the briefest of glances to renewable energy sources or other alternative energy sources such as water fuel and biodiesel.

Today, we have no choice but to look at these alternative fuel sources. They're within our attention now simply because we must pay attention to them.

Biodiesel fuels and water fuels are both renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources that we can fuel our cars with. These fuels are available now and can positively impact both the environment and our wallets.

Biodiesel fuels use plant sources such as corn to make oil. The oil becomes fuel. Cooking oils that have been discarded by restaurants and other places can also be used to make biodiesel. This is yet another advantage to biodiesel because this can help keep waste out of landfills. These fuels are completely renewable as energy sources and can have a cleaner burn than fossil fuels can. These can make a much better alternative to gasoline or other fossil fuels when we think about fueling our cars.

We can also use water fuel to make fossil fuel resources go further. With water fuel, some gas is also used, but the technology lets consumers get many more miles per gallon of gas than could be had without it.

When you utilize water fuel, you will roughly double the mileage you get from your gasoline. When you install the conversion kit in your car, a battery's electric current "burns" water to give you a very efficient fuel. This technology has been around for some time, but is now becoming more popular because customers want to get more out of each gallon of gas they buy.

There are a couple of drawbacks to biodiesel fuel at present. Although biodiesel is renewable, it produces some pollution. In addition, there is some question about its usefulness as a renewable energy source because it has been suggested that more fossil fuel is used during biodiesel production than is actually saved by using biodiesel instead of gas. Because of this, water fuel may be a better renewable fuel source than biodiesel.

However, if water conversion kits are not available in your area, biodiesel can be a fine choice, especially if it comes from used cooking oils, for instance. As technology advances, too, biodiesel will likely come into its own and will no longer be produced by using fossil fuels; instead, alternative fuels are likely to be used for biodiesel production as well.

Regardless of concerns such as the above, it's clear that our days of reliance on fossil fuels indiscriminately and as though they are endless and renewable are over. Rising gas prices may simply be a wake-up call to tell us we need to change our behavior.

Water fuels and biodiesel fuels are two fuel sources that can help us both save money and the environment.
